Safety Glasses
Safety glasses (also known as goggles) protect your eyes from flying particles, nails and so on.
Over time you will find they become scratched (the do not use glass but a very tough plastic) and will need replacement.
You also need to replace them whenever something catastrophic happens (for instance if the glasses stop a nail or if you step on them).
A good pair doesn't have to be really expensive. If you already wear glasses you may want to wear them 'behind' your safety glasses or use contacts for jobs that need safety glasses.
If you wear them very often (machinists, shop mechanics and so on) then it might be worth it to get a pair that takes your eyesight into consideration.
Normal glasses are NO substitute for safety glasses, for one they will get scratched which is going to cost you a lot of cash, and they can shatter when hit with debris giving you potentially a larger problem then if you had no glasses at all !
Jobs when you really want to have safety glasses on are grinding, hammering on metal or rock and working with battery acid. And of course during any other job that may be risky to your eyesight.
