Safety is one of the most important things to keep in mind when you are tackling a job of this magnitude as a 'do-it-yourselfer'. More people get wounded/killed/maimed in DIY projects anually than in traffic accidents. Not all the accidents are severe, but any one of them could probably have been avoided with a little bit of attention to safe operating procedures.

Safety has many aspects, the most important of which are Tool Safety, Electrical Safety, Workplace Safety. The work that you will be doing when creating an alternative energy installation touches on many aspects that you normally have little or no exposure to, so spend some extra time on reading this section and make sure you know where you stand before embarking on a risky procedure.

It revolves around all kinds of 'good practice' issues, and each of these has been arrived at by someone getting hurt (in more or lesser degree) at some point in the past and other people either witnessing the accident or the person involved living long enough to tell about it.
