Volt (volts)

Volt. The unit of electrical potential. One volt is the electrical potential that will cause one ampere of current to flow through one ohm of resistance. Also may be defined as one joule of work per coulomb of charge transferred.

The difference in potential between the two electrodes of a cell, or the two terminals of a battery.
