Rated Wind Speed

The rated wind speed of an electricity producing wind turbine is the speed at which it will produce its name plate power rating.

Most wind mills are rated at 30 to 35 MPH which is well above the average wind speed in almost any location you can imagine. This means that most wind mills will produce much less than their rated power output would imply.
