Meter

A meter is a device typically used to make electrical readings in circuits. The D'arsonval meter movement is the most common type of mechanical meter in use today. I found a graphic online that I included to show the basics. The movement itself is very sensitive with a full scale deflection of the needle occuring at very low voltage across the movement from 100 microvolts up to the 100 millivolt range for full deflection. Usually there will be circuitry attached to the meter movement itself that conditions and reduces the voltage the meter will see. Simple voltage divider networks are common in cheap meters. The D'arsonval meter movement itself is designed for Direct Current voltage (DC) only.
