Fusion

A nuclear reaction in which elements with small atomic numbers are combined to produce an element with a larger atomic number. Large amounts of energy are released by this process, it usually involves hydrogen nuclei combining to form helium nuclei, also called thermonuclear reactions. The output of the sun and other stars is created by the fusion reaction.
