Failure Mode

Failure mode referers to the expected or unexpected demise of a piece of equipment. If the equipment is designed properly then all the different ways in which it can fail have been anticipated and the device will fail in a predictable way.

If that is not the case then 'all bets are off' and there is a serious risk of injury or damage.

In renewable energy systems these risks are most strongly associated with windmills, batteries, inverters and high voltage circuits.
