Anode

In batteries:

An electrode at which an oxidation process, i.e. loss of electrons, is occuring. (Negative electrode on discharge; positive electrode on charge.)

In diodes:

The contact that has to be at a higher potential (voltage) for current to flow through it. CNAP -> Cathode negative, Anode Positive is a little trick to remember this by.
